IRS Tax Resolution?

Filed under: Law — Tripp @ 1:58 pm

If you owe taxes to the IRS you know all about the stress the IRS collection efforts can add to your life.  There’s nothing like receiving a mailbox full of certified letters from the IRS about your back tax debt.  It is even more enjoyable when you are able to see how much interest and penalties have accrued against your tax debt.  At one point you owed very little, but over the years that tax debt has probably doubled due to interest and penalties.

The good news is, you don’t have to go up against the IRS by yourself.  No matter where you are in the country, our law firm can assist you with your IRS tax liability.  We can help you with an offer in compromise, installment agreement (the IRS term for a payment plan), abating your penalties, helping you get your earned income credit or head of household credit and much more.

We can help you with all types of tax liabilities including individual income tax, business income tax, trust fund recovery penalty and more.

E-mail me and tell me a little about your IRS problem.  I can set up a meeting with you at my office to discuss if further or we can talk on the phone.  Stay tuned to this blog and my new blog that is coming soon for weekly question and answer posts, as well as new tax laws, steps to take in tax resolution and much more.

Why did I choose to go to law school?

Filed under: Law — Tripp @ 12:56 pm

Well, I chose to go to law school not too long after I graduated from college and began working as a mechanical engineer for a huge engineering/construction firm.  It didn’t take me long to learn that the company was all about making money – and less about taking care of the people that worked there.  Just like a lot of other businesses, the engineering/construction business is very cyclical.  It has its good times, and it has its bad ones as well.  And when it gets bad, people start getting laid off.  I got very scared.  I saw a lot of people well into their careers who have been laid off countless times.  And what do they do?  They just go from one big company to the next, work a while and get laid off when the work drops off.  I couldn’t see myself doing this for the rest of my working life!  I had to get out.  So I decided to look into law school.  I wanted a job where I could work for myself and do what I wanted to do.  I feel like I can take care of myself better than someone else would, and being an attorney would allow me to have more control over my career and my life.

So far, I have been able to work in a small law office where I don’t feel like a number.  I get to work directly with my clients.  I don’t have to go through my boss or a partner or some random connection to the client.  I have been able to immediately start going to court to represent my clients rather than researching and following older attorneys around for several years.  It is probably a trial by fire, but I feel like in a few months I will have several years worth of quality experience.  .

Realizing how good I have it…

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Tripp @ 12:55 pm

Things have been a little stressful at work the last few weeks, and I know I’ve been complaining a little, maybe a lot!  I have been worried a lot about whether the firm will be able the next few months.  Whether we will be able to keep up with payroll or pay the bills.  Whether we will be able to take care of all of our clients.  What will my staff do if the firm has to close?  Anyway, I’ve been hearing a lot about God not putting you in a situation you can’t handle.  I’m not sure if I’m doing a good job or not, but I know I shouldn’t be worrying because the Bible says we should not worry about tomorrow because today has enough worries of its own.

Well, I met with a potential client this afternoon who is going into surgery on Monday and was needing a will and possibly some more things prepared for her.  The thing about this client was that she was only 21 years old and had already undergone several surgeries.  She has been diagnosed with cervical cancer, lung cancer and a brain tumor.  She told me that the doctors had done all they could with regard to the cervical cancer, including a hysterectomy; there was nothing the doctors could do regarding her lung cancer and she was getting ready to have surgery to remove the brain tumor.  Her main concern was having a will and trust drawn up so that her three year old son would be taken care of because the boy’s father was very irresponsible and if the money wasn’t put into a trust the father would probably spend everything on himself – to be read: on drugs and alcohol.

I’m feeling really bad about this because I have been complaining about having a hard time dealing with issues about work and here is a young girl dealing with whether she is going to be alive after Monday to take care of her son.  I don’t know what to do in a situation like that, and I’m sure I would be worrying a lot.  But I know that God is taking care of his own and I’m glad to have a Savior who loved me so much that he gave his only son to die on the cross to save me from sin and death.  While I don’t know what the outcome of her surgery will be, and I don’t know if my firm will make it the entire nine months, I do know that God wouldn’t put me in a situation that I couldn’t handle.  I also know that God takes us through the trials so he can strengthen us and prepare us for the future.  I don’t know what is in store, but I am excited to follow God and see what he has in store for me.

“I know the dealio of life…life is precious”

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Tripp @ 12:22 am

Some of the more profound words of Michael Scott.  Michael had a little brush with death and that got him thinking about how precious life is.  He was trying to scrape something off of electrical outlet and was given a pretty good jolt.  And just in case he has a son, Michael wanted to make sure that he captured the essence of life of video for him in case he was to die while his “son” was young.  Dwight video taped him hilariously show his son how to jump start a car by hooking the jumper cables up “anywhere on the engine.”

During the episode Michael helped throw bachelor/bachelorette parties for Phylis and Bob Vance.  Since the girls wouldn’t let him come to the party they were having for Phylis, Michael decided to have a big party for Bob cooking some “man meat” and hiring a stripper.  Todd Packer also enlighted us on the legal term of art “separate but equal” by explaining that as long as Michael hired a male stripper for the females it was fine for him to hire a female stripper for the men in the office.  This turned hilarious quickly when Michael jumped in line for a lap dance and quickly backpedaled all the way out of the warehouse to call Jan to confess.  The separate but equal “stripper” for the ladies was Benjamin Franklin - or at least Dwight was 99% sure it wasn’t the real Ben Franklin.  Anyway, the ladies were ready for a strip show and they got an uncomfortable educational experience - and Pam got asked out by good ole Ben.

A hilarious clip during the bachelor party was when Stanly tried cutting into the steak with the plastic silverware and broke the fork.  Classic!

You can always count on Dwight to get his money’s worth.  Since the strip show was cut short, Dwight tried to put the stripper to work answering the phones for the three hours they paid for.

Michael Scott School of Business

Filed under: Miscellaneous — Tripp @ 5:33 pm

I am starting a new category - and possibly a new blog about “The Office.” I love this show!  I know every office has many similarities to Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton office, and Michael Scott is always cued up to the most up to date office management styles.  Can you detect my sarcasm?  While the show seems almost too real on occasion (maybe it reminds me of some places I’ve worked before); I have read that the entire show is scripted…every joke, every glance at the camera - everything.  I’m not sure the direction this part of the blog will take, but I anticipate some discussions on episodes, getting caught up on the first, second, and third seasons, as well as entire posts just on some of the quotable “Michael Scott-isms”.  While the show is a parody on the typical day at work, there are usually some cool points we can take and direct towards our own work lives.  So I guess this won’t be totally off-topic from the rest of my blog posts.  It should be a fun addition to my other blog posts.  We shall soon see.
